Regional Utilities came to us with a website that had seen better days. Not only was the design dated, but the site was also running on plugins so old that updates were no longer available. This created both security concerns and practical limitations for day-to-day management.
The first step was to connect them with one of our trusted external design partners for a brand refresh. While we handle all website design in-house, we occasionally collaborate with specialist designers on branding and other creative projects. Once Regional Utilities had their new brand identity and guidelines in place, we set about designing and building a modern site that reflected their updated look and gave them the flexibility they needed moving forward.
The new site is built with Breakdance and makes use of ACF for custom post types, taxonomies, and fields. One of the most important features we developed was a streamlined system for managing boil water notices, which are a legal requirement for utilities companies. Instead of manually updating different parts of the site, the Regional Utilities team can now simply fill in a set of custom fields. The system automatically determines whether a notice is current or expired, displaying it in a prominent site-wide notice bar when active and hiding it once it’s no longer relevant. This gives their staff full control, reduces room for error, and ensures customers always see the latest information.
The site has also been designed with the end user in mind. It’s easy for customers to find what they need, with quick access to key actions such as paying bills, starting or stopping a service, reporting issues, and checking the current rates. Clear navigation and a fresh, modern layout make the site both user-friendly and reliable.
The finished site is clean, responsive, and aligned with their refreshed brand. It provides Regional Utilities with a modern online presence that’s easy to manage and reliable for their customers. The team are delighted with the result, and the new site sets them up for many years to come.
